Daniel Bell was wrong when he said that capitalism has no moral, transcendent ethic. Godless capitalism may have abandoned a Christian ethic and the prophetic teachings of Jesus, but it preaches the divine right of the market, and the objectification of the dignity of work to the divine right of the market, as a precondition of participating in American society.
American Communion is a new political theology for generation none, an intra-generational cohort of persons who do not identify with the institutional church, but who still believe religion is an important aspect of their life, and who believe market idolatry is a fundamental threat to the American worker, their families, and the common good of society as a whole. American Communion is a future-oriented moral alternative to a Christianity that has abdicated its political responsibility to bear witness to an economy that kills.
